Foxy Brown, Action Figure

Another crisscross in the local dailies as former Sen. Scott Brown (R-$$$) mulls over joining the madcap crew at Fox News. The Boston Globe front-pages it,; the Boston Herald relegates it to page 12.

From the feisty local tabloid:

While a talking head gig at Fox News could give former U.S. Sen. Scott Brown a running start, should he run for governor in 2014 — it could also prove to be a political albatross in the deep blue Bay State.

“It makes it tougher for him to run for governor, being a commentator on a conservative news network that’s not all that popular beyond Republicans in Massachusetts,” said Republican consultant Rob Gray.

A Fox News spokeswoman yesterday confirmed that Brown is in talks with the national network but would not detail what role the ex-senator would play. That announcement comes after Fox cut ties with former GOP vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin and Clinton presidential adviser Dick Morris.

Scott Brown as Sarah Morris. We like that . . .

Judd Not, Lest Ye Be Judd

From our If Ronald Reagan Can Do It desk

Politico Playbook:

FIRST LOOK: American Crossroads today will release a two-minute web ad, “Vote for Me, You Hillbillies,” lampooning actress Ashley Judd, a Democrat who is considering challenging Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) presenting Ashley Judd’s far left views as she considers a run for U.S. Senate in Kentucky. The ad quotes Judd, (and daughter of country star Naomi Judd, calling herself “delightfully radical,” saying she’ll “go wherever [President Obama] wants her to go,” and calling Tennessee “home.” The ad closes: “Ashley Judd — an Obama-following, radical Hollywood liberal, who’s right at home in Tennessee. I mean Kentucky.” Crossroads is spending $10,000 on the ad through online advertising, targeting opinion leaders in Kentucky. YouTube http://bit.ly/WO7XY4

The web ad:

Also from Playbook:

Jonathan Collegio, communications director of American Crossroads, writes in a memo to Kentucky media: “At American Crossroads, we hope you enjoy watching the ad as much as we enjoyed creating it.”

Let The Wild Chuck Hagel Rumpus Begin! (International Association of Fire Fighters Edition)

From Politico Influence:

FIREFIGHTERS GROUP LAUNCHES ADS SUPPORTING HAGEL: The International Association of Fire Fighters has launched a series of targeted TV and print ads supporting former Sen. Chuck Hagel’s nomination for secretary of Defense. That’s Just So Mean! (Hillary Clinton Edition V)

The Boston Herald joins the ranks of those who revel in printing images of Hillary Clinton that are as unflattering as possible.

Herald Op-Ed: Mass. GOP = Gone Off Party

It’s a rare day when the local dailies crisscross, but count today as one of them: A liberal Boston Globe columnist puts on the pompoms for Bay State Republicans, while a conservative Herald thumbsucker goes all frowny-faced on them.

Start with Scot Lehigh’s piece in the stately local broadsheet.

07012011_0701oped_winslowFinally, Mass. GOP has some likely candidates

KUDOS TO Dan Winslow and Gabriel Gomez, the two Republicans in this state willing to join the race for US Senate.

Apparently willing, anyway . . .

Harry Houdini And The Boston 1600-Pound Sea Monster Post

From our Web Moves in Mysterious Ways desk

About a year ago, the hardtrundling staff (and the Missus!) went down to the Big Town and caught a Harry Houdini exhibit at New York’s Jewish Museum.

We then duly noted our visit in this post, which included a 1911 newspaper clipping:

Cut to this week, during which that post has been viewed 673 times.

Why?

Who the hell knows?

That’s the roll-the-dice beauty of the Worldwide Web.

Hillary Clinton And Bar Rafaeli Are An Item

Hillary Clinton has a post-Foggy Bottom website, per MSNBC’s First Read:

“Hillary Clinton has found her post-State Department home on the World Wide Web,” Politico notes. “HillaryClintonOffice.com [see here] is bare-bones so-far, sporting only a picture of the former Secretary of State and a contact form. According to registration data, the site was created Jan. 31, and was last edited Sunday. The URL was registered through GoDaddy.com.”

That would be the same GoDaddy.com that ran this ad during Sunday’s Super Bowl broadcast:

Memo to Hillary: Ewww.

Gronk: Giving New Meaning To Tight End

Patriot party boy Rob Gronkowski is all over the place – literally and figuratively – these days. Except, that is, at the Boston Globe. The stately local broadsheet has a small item buried in today’s Names column.

The feisty local tabloid, though, really goes to town today. Start with the back page . . .

Gawker Buys Into ‘Commerce Journalism’

New name, same old game: Turning news into newsvertising.

Via the International Business Times:

11-15-2011-Nick-DentonTHUMBGawker Media Hopes To Spur E-Commerce Revenue With ‘Commerce Journalism,’ Says Nick Denton

“Your beat is helping readers buy things,” Gawker’s new job description reads.

The ethical and business challenges of creating “advertorial” content aside, Gawker Media sees its future in an e-commerce revolution inspired by sponsored posts and so-called “commerce journalism.”

In a memo leaked Thursday and posted on Advertising Age, Gawker founder Nick Denton said he expects at least 10 percent of the company’s revenue in 2013 to come from e-commerce activity, a quarter of the 40 percent growth he projects for the entire network.

Here’s how it works, according to the Gawker jobs listing . . .

Patr(id)iot Rob Gronkowski Bilocates In Boston Media

First there was this note in Monday’s Boston Herald Inside Track:

ESPN The Magazine's "NEXT" EventTracked down: Rob Gronkowski, Chauncey Billups, Doc Rivers and more…

Patriots party boy Rob Gronkowski down in New Orleans making the rounds of the Super Bowl soirees including the ESPN The Magazine bash and the Leather and Laces hoedown with bros Chris and Dan

Then there was last night’s NewsCenter 5 at 11 report that featured this video of Gronkowski in Las Vegas last night:

And finally there’s this in today’s Herald:

Rob Gronkowski spotted dancing, wrestling with broken arm at Las Vegas club

Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski was captured in a TMZ video last night dancing on stage at XS, which is a nightclub in Las Vegas. A shirtless Gronkowski was wrestling with a friend on stage, and he slammed his friend to the ground, which caused Gronkowski’s broken left arm to flail back and hit the stage. Gronkowski didn’t appear to be in any pain, though. He was still wearing the long black cast that extended from the bottom of his forearm to beneath his shoulder, which he also wore last week in New Orleans.

So wait – Gronkowski went to the Super Bowl parties but left before the game to go to Las Vegas?

Apparently so.

Idiot.
