Yes, Legal Sea Foods has a long and spotty history of controversial advertising.
And yes, any publicity is good publicity, as they say.
But this ad is a disgrace.

Hey, Roger.
You’re full of carp.

They had another one today, for a Bethany Evans.
Yeah, they have decent chowdah, but they just lost me as a customer.
Wow every time I think Legal Seafood has sunk to a new low, Roger just manages to dig himself deeper. I hope your crack staff can find out just who’s picture that is?

It’s interesting that the Globe “ePaper” app thinks that this is a news item, not an advertisement. I can even “share” it. Whatever happened to those little disclaimers (like the ones for the miracle pill “news” stories)?
Sorry, but that’s friggin’ hysterical, as are most of their ads. It’s not like it’s a real obit.
I agree. It’s clever, funny, and eye-catching. What’s so offensive about this? I doubt Henry Wheeler is even a real man. No one is being offended or exploited and it effectively delivers the message. Props to Legals.
ad is in terrible taste. are they that desparate for business?
The problem is that the tag line these all lead to isn’t funny. “The only thing that should be dead is the fish on your plate,” or whatever it is, just isn’t funny.
Or something like that.
There are many ways to advertise, this is not one of them. Some people actually think their family members wrote that. OH MY!
As odd as it may seem, I know a father of 3 named Henry Wheeler who is about that age. Picture was not of him but his family found it offensive and i don’t blame them.
