The Boston Bruins just smothered the Chicago Blackhawks in Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Finals, yeah?
The B’s out-shot, out-hit, out-faceoffed, out-penaltykilled, and downright outed the ‘Hawks last night.
Highlights, starting with the first– second-period goal by Daniel Paille (splendid reader Mike Barry: “possibly the hardest-working athlete in Boston sports.”).
Period Two: Say hello to Jaromir Jagr (can’t score, but really can pass).
In the end, the Bruins didn’t just ground the Hawks. They ground the ‘Hawks down.
Game 4 is gut-check time for Chicago. The hardguessing staff says they win on Wednesday.
It’s hard to take anything you say seriously when you can’t even report the correct time of Paille’s goal. It was in the 2nd period, by the way. Not the first. Bruins are going to kill again on Wednesday and then take the cup.
Midnight mistake – thanks for the heads up, Erin. As for Game 4, let’s talk tomorrow night, okay?
B’s have the edge in conditioning, which has been a factor in every game, and is becoming a factor in the series.
For all the enthusiasm you display for the NHL, it’s not shared by the NBC Broadcast Television Network. I just checked tvbythenumbers.com, and NBC Broadcast ran a night-long version of their “talent” show for people who couldn’t pass the audition for the Tanglewood Festival Chorus. The rating for the least discriminating cohort in America, teenagers thru post-adolescents, came in at double-digits. I don’t know what the plans are for subsequent games. There are cynics who believe the ABC Broadcast Television Network would like a seventh NBA game and maybe the men officiating these games know that. Are there equally cynical observers of NBC and the NHL who believe that the Stanley Cup series might be advanced to seven games?

R: The hockey enthusiasm is the Boston area seems not to have drawn listeners and callers to the lowest-rated all-sports radio station in town, WUFC-AM 1510. When they switched to all-sports a year ago under the call letters WWZN, they ran mostly satellite fed sports talk from Yahoo! and NBC. They bravely inserted a daytime lineup of locally-originated call-in shows, but with NO LISTENERS THEY GOT NO CALLERS. Their pleas for callers sounds like Ben Stein saying “Bueller? Bueller” to no response.
It’s an expensive, preppy game in the US, Larry, and not intended for everyone. I sold my two seats to Monday’s game for more than twice the average weekly salary, and had to refuse offers. Quite honestly, it’s not aimed at you.
