What are the odds that three of the four Big Town dailies would feature the same Page One photo in their coverage of this weekend’s big storm?
Pretty good, as the Poynter website reported yesterday:
Same photo appears on front pages of NYT, WSJ, WashPost, NY Post
It’s not unusual for a single image to dominate a news event. But it is unusual for the same photo to be prominently featured on four major newspapers.Reuters photojournalist Brian Snyder captured the front page image (shown below) in Boston on Friday, as the storm was arriving.
The front pages . . .

Why did the NY Post refer to “Snowstorm Nemo”? That’s a gimmick dreamed up by The Weather Channel, owned by the parent company of NBC. MSNBC did storm coverage leading into the shows hosted by Ed Schultz, Rachel Maddow and Lawrence O’Donnell (the latter two were off and the shows were co-hosted by others) and they did NOT refer to “Snowstorm Nemo”. The 6:30 pm newscasts from the NBC broadcast network were pre-empted by WHDH-TV so I don’t know if Brian Williams ever said “Snowstorm Nemo” Maybe WJAR-TV viewers got the newscasts and could report on this.
