Scott Brown (R-I Built Myself) has a new web video out (via Politico’s Morning Score) that “juxtaposes the clip of the president saying ‘somebody else made that happen’ as it relates to success in the private sector against exhortations of free enterprise from John Kennedy, Lyndon Johnson, Bill Clinton and Ronald Reagan. Then it shows a clip of an angry-looking Elizabeth Warren saying, ‘There is nobody in this country who got rich on his own. Nobody!’ It ends with a still photo of two adorable blonde girls selling glasses of lemonade for 25 cents. The tagline: ‘Let America be America again.'”
That’s just one more variation on the latest political media meme, and it gives Brown a twofer: He gets to whack Obama and Warren with the same stick.
But not only does Brown distort Obama’s words, he also ignores the Romney campaign’s distortion of Obama’s critic in this TV spot.
Double deception. Scott Brown built that.
We’ll give the last word to editorial cartoonist Mike Luckovich (via the Boston Globe):
“”You Olympians, however, know you didn’t get here solely on your own power. For most of you, loving parents, sisters or brothers, encouraged your hopes, coaches guided, communities built venues in order to organize competitions. All Olympians stand on the shoulders of those who lifted them. We’ve already cheered the Olympians, let’s also cheer the parents, coaches, and communities. All right!” – Mitt Romney, 2002
Good one, Stephen.
Stephen and John…Shame on you dredging up something that Mittens said.
We all know he lies and spins to political gain…David Axelrod and Stephanie Cutter tell us all the time that this is true, so you can pin a lie on him, but you can’t make much out of what he said.
I know! It’s so unfair to use Romney’s actual words. But it’s OK for Republicans to trim and twist Obama’s and Warren’s. You won’t hear “boo” from the media!
Pin the tail on the donkey? Pin the tail on the elephant?
In political terms, difference without a distinction.
I do notice that Obama is staying as far away from his record as he can, and there are fair number of Democrats staying as far away from Obama as possible.
Is there a reason?
I dunno, Mudge – how’s your 401K doing?
You will if you watch Broadside at 6 on NECN, Stephen.
Not bad, Jon! (I can’t stand Braude on his radio gig, so I never watched the TV show before.) Obama did “fight back” against Romney “slicing and dicing his words” in a more forceful attack than the clip Braude showed. Still not bold enough, I think.
Ack! Sorry, *John*
401K’s? Ditched them years ago.
There are other ways of funding retirement.
Reality is so 20th century.
