Crush Rush: Boston Gets Anti-Limbaugh Radio Blitz

Via Mediaite:

Liberal Group Spends $100,000 On Anti-Limbaugh Radio Campaign

The latest development in the backlash to Rush Limbaugh‘s comments about Sandra Fluke? A radio campaign. Media Matters is running two advertisements in eight cities — and spending at least $100,000 on the effort. The ads will use Limbaugh’s own words to attack him.

One of the eight cities is Boston, as the Washington Times reports:

Ad time was purchased in Boston; Chicago; Detroit; Seattle; Milwaukee; St. Louis; Macon, Ga.; and Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The cities were selected to support active local campaigns against Limbaugh or because of perceptions Limbaugh may be vulnerable in that market, said Angelo Carusone of Media Matters.

Representative spot:

What say you, Boston?

  1. Laurence Glavin says:

Boston would appear to be the very model of a market where Rush would normally be considered vulnerable. The station that carries his show from near Boston, WXKS-AM-1200, actually licensed in Newton, ranks 26th in the most recent Arbitron(tm) Portable People Meter(tm) ratings with regard to average percentage of listeners, and the station’s cumulative audience per-week has fallen below 100,000: http://www.radio-info.com/markets/boston However Clear Channel/Bain both syndicates Rush’s show AND owns numerous stations that carry his broadcast, including the aforementioned WXKS-AM, so it’s highly unlikely that MMFA’s efforts will succeed here or in any other market where Clear Channel /Bain uses Rush Limbaugh as the anchor of a right-wing radio station’s lineup. And in right-wing radio circles, it’s very difficult to dislodge a host simply for outrageous comments or salacious visuals in a blog. Here’s another example in another market, this time South Carolina: http://www.artpopeexposed.com/pope_funded_locke_foundation The “contributor” to this John Locke Foundation blog may have been dismissed but she continues to broadcast every day on a local radio station: http://wrnn.net/pages/pages.php?page=4

  2. Any idea where the spot is going to run?

  3. Ever get the feeling Rush doesn’t *like* women, if you know what I mean?

Cue the right-wing response: “What about the man-hating femi-nazis?” Yeah, yeah, we get it — you hate women. A lot. Wink-wink, nudge-nudge.
