Quote o’ the Day (Jonathan Papelbon Edition)

From Dan Shaughnessy’s Boston Globe Page One finger-wagger:

“For me to say ‘fatigue’ would be an excuse and I’m not looking for excuses,’’ said [Jonathan] Papelbon, who threw 28 pitches to finish Tuesday’s win.

Sure sounds like an excuse, though, doesn’t it?

Just curious. What were the Orioles celebrating last night after defeating the Sox? It looked like they won a berth in the playoffs, instead of nothing but the last game of the regular season. Were they that happy they won? Was it because they helped keep the Sox out of the playoffs? With the season they had, they should have breathed a sigh of relief at winning a game.

Even after listening to thew babbling of sports talk radio and TV news today, I don’t think the Sox are any more smug than most of the rest of the overpaid, pampered players in the game today.
