By now it’s clear to the hardreading staff – as it should be to everyone – that the trial of mobster James “Whitey” Bulger is about one thing and one thing only:
Howie Carr.
The Boston Herald columnist previously milked his presence on Bulger’s witness list for some bulk-mail pieces. Now it’s John Martorano’s turn to get a Carr ride.

Is it me, or did you completely miss the answer to the $110,000 question that appeared in Tuesday’s papers?
The reason that Howie Carr should be canned from his gig pretending to be a news columnist / journalist for the Boston Herald.
Disgraceful. Him, not you.
I guess I didn’t mention it because I haven’t considered Howie Carr a journalist for at least a decade, Mike. But technically, you’re right – if the hair transplant ads didn’t expel him from the new-media ranks, this certainly does.
