The corporate humanization effort by Mitt Romney (R-Power to the Corporation!) just keeps drawing more heat.

Via Politico’s Playbook:

Even though you could sit down and make a semi-coherent argument that corporations are people, my friend, why would Romney say such a thing in front of voters and cameras?

His argument sure appeared to be prepared. No, not in the sense that he was planning on making this statement in Iowa that day as part of a PR campaign. It sounded like a prepared argument he had said privately to many people before, causing it to just roll off his tongue.

Is this something Romney says to his monied folk when he has big money campaign fundraisers? That’s my guess: it sounds like a point that you make to wealthy people you’re trying to court, not an argument you make to working class people at a state fair. Maybe we learned something about what Romney does behind closed doors.

The man has major skills, as the wealth he has accumulated for himself shows. He is also someone who could pass muster with a board of directors interviewing for a new CEO, but as a candidate for President, he is tone deaf and has a tin ear if anyone thinks the things he has been saying while trying to connect with voters are working. Things such as the corporations are people one, or the “I’m unemployed, too” one, or even the “That waitress grabbed my ass” one are just three examples. He’s like the nerd, trying to fit in with the in crowd, tries to talk like them, but just doesn’t get it and makes things worse. Be yourself should be the first rule of every candidate. Trying to do otherwise is a little like juggling lies. The more you do it, the greater chance you get tripped up.

Someone said Romney is the least self-aware person he’s ever seen, so that be yourself thing probably isn’t gonna work.
